Day 5: Bukit Tinggi - French Village & Japanese Village

We stayed overnight in the girl, Wai Yi's house where is located in Kepong after we dropped a visit to Kooi Chee's house. The next morning, from Kepong to Bukit Tinggi, we took about 1 hour to reach by highway. We needed to pay for entrance fees for both villages. We visited French Village first and once we reached, we really "wowww". The village was beautiful more than we expected.

French Village

From entrance, the overall architecture building was really attractive with the nice blue sky. French Village is actually quite big with many souvenirs shop lots and restaurants. There are also stairs and lift for visitors to see the view of village from top. That's it.

There are some hidden corners as photos shown as below. I guess there are not so many visitors coming on normal days or during morning, many photos can be taken nicely without any photobomb haha. We spent for a quite long time there seriously by taking photos and visiting around.

You can really take photos anywhere there ! I can't imagine how beautiful is the real buildings or villages if I have chance to go travelling in French.

Japanese Village
Then we moved to Japanese Village. From the signboard below, it looks many places to visit but in real there are few only like Japanese garden and botanical garden. Before reaching the japanese garden, we walked for few minutes and the walking pathway is quite steep.

Due to limited time, we just stayed there within 1 hour and the weather was getting hotter. Thus, I also took less photos there. Seriously, Japanese village is not so well-maintained like French village, there is walking pathway to be blocked inside the garden, I'm not sure whether it's under maintenance or what. My fren who visited when she was young, she told us that there was actually an exit once u entered the village, which means no one turned back to the entering pathway.

There is also opportunity to wear kimono or yukata (kimono & yukata service), if I don't remember wrongly, it costs RM20/person. I read some blog article about Japanese village and I found that it is really more beautiful on few year ago. As overall for me, Japanese village is still recommended to visit but don't put high expectations. It may not look like the real village in Japan of course.

Day 6: Segamat, Johor

The girl, Chen Sian who is from Segamat, she always said that her hometown is just a small town that has nothing. Yet, the most famous food that her relatives must eat once they come is wan tan mee. That's Yik Kee Wantan mee (张益记云吞面). She's a vegetarian and of course she doesn't know how it tastes haha.

Yik Kee Wantan mee (张益记云吞面)
I really like this kind of wan tan mee that they serve noodles with soy sauce type, it's supposed to call as Kon Lau Mee. Normally the wan tan mee we eat is the wan tan inside together with the noodles, but they serve with wan tan soup. I was too hungry so I ordered big plate one, the portion was really big, it might not able to see from the photo below.

The price is also affordable for different serving sizes. You can choose small, medium or big. One uniqueness of their wan tan mee is the mee and char siew are made by their own, while for the wan tan is no much difference with others' stalls. I was surprised that their wan tan mee has actually 7 branches now, so I'm not sure which branch that I ate but I guess it's the main shop.

Dataran Segamat
After that, we headed to Dataran Segamat. Dataran Segamat is one of the main attraction in town of Segamat. It is built in year 1996 and it acts as the main venue to celebrate Johor's National Day. When the dataran was chosen as the state-level host again, it was renovated in year 2005. As durian is the landmark of Segamat, so there is a big big 'DURIAN' over there.

Dataran Segamat:
Opening hours: 24 hours (Public Area)

Address: Jalan Omar, Kampung Gubah, 85000 Segamat, Johor.

Savoury Vegetarian Restoran (慈心素食馆)
For our dinner, Chen Sian's mum brought us to Savoury Restoran Vegetarian (慈心素食馆). From outside, you can really see how beautiful with the furnishment, it's a bit like English's style with white paintings and furniture, together with the yellow lamps that make the ambience of restaurant better.

They are also selling the health-products and organic products. From photo, you can there are quite alot and many variety of products on the racks. Not to forget mention about, this vegetarian restaurant also serve economic rice for lunch and dinner time and there are 30 dishes for customers to choose.

I simply took this photo as all of us were hungry and started eating already. For me, all dishes were very delicious seriously. You may ask the waitress / waiter to recommend any dishes when taking orders. If you're meat lover and have some perceptions on vegetarian food, you may have a try. I highly recommend this restaurant ! 💗💗

For the prices, I was not sure as Chen Sian's mum treated us. Yet, I trust the prices are affordable as there are quite a lot of customers.

Savoury Vegetarian Restoran (慈心素食馆):
Opening hours: 10:30am - 2:30pm (Lunch)
                          5:00pm - 9:30pm (Dinner)

Address: 3 & 5, Jalan Nagasari 17, Bandar Segamat Baru, 85000 Segamat, Johor.

Day 7: Johor Bahru, Johor
刘记粿条仔(东湾阁美食坊)

Johor Bahru was really last stop for us and it's Sherry's hometown. As breakfast, we headed to Dong Wang Kopitiam to eat 刘记粿条仔. Sherry's mum ordered total 6 dishes as photo below and I really liked that because all dishes were very delicious ! We had total 9 persons that time and I think the portions were really more than enough. The dish that I like the most is of course the egg and second one is the braised pork meat. I'm not a meat lover but I like this kind of pork meat.

The dish on the top of photo has actually the pigskin, pig ears and some internal organs. Their pigskin is really soft and flavourful. As overall, for maybe 4-5 persons, I recommend 3-4 dishes (you may order different serving portions according to your preferences). Recommended dishes: Eggs, braised pork meat / chicken + duck meat, bean curd sheets. You may order extra one dish of vegetables also.

刘记粿条仔(东湾阁美食坊):
Opening hours: 7:00am - 2:20pm (Not sure about the offday)
Address: 21, Jalan Hang Tuah 27, Taman Skudai Baru, 81300 Skudai, Johor.

Istana Bukit Serene
Istana Bukit Serene is the royal palace and also official residence of Sultan Johor. This is one of the attraction that visitors must come. It has a tower measuring 35m and it is actually huge enough and beautiful. I was really amazed. As there were two guards sitting outside the grand palace, so we could only stay in the restricted areas to take photos.

Istana Bukit Serene:
Opening hours: ALL (Public Area)
Address: Jalan Straits View, Bukit Serene, 80200 Johor Bahru, Johor.

Tan Hiok Nee Heritage Street (柔佛新山陈旭年街)

And we headed to Tan Hiok Nee Heritage Street, which is the historical and old street in Johor Bahru. Due to hot weather, we also strolled around and rested in a cafe first before going to Chinese Heritage Museum. Basically, the museum tells about the history of the Chinese community in Johor Bahru. Before the naming of Johor Bahru of the town, it was called as Iskandar Puteri. There are many collections like photos, documents, old coins and so on.

The entrance fee is actually RM5/person if I did not remember wrongly. If you are interested in this kind of historical sharing, then I would recommend it. You can visit here by walking after parking if you have your own transport.

Johor Bahru Chinese Heritage Museum:
Opening hours: 9am - 5pm (Closed on Monday)
Address: 42, Jalan Ibrahim, 80000 Johor Bahru, Johor.
Contact No: 07-224 9633

There are many restaurants and cafes for visitors also. The street feel is almost same like Georgetown Heritage area also, just the difference is you hardly find snacks food here. The famous street photo- SMILE. Yet, it's not easy to capture the nice one together with people in the photo, so I just took one.

Puteri Harbour International Ferry Terminal
It was our last stop in Johor Bahru and also in this road trip. What I can say is I like here very much ! This is because it's a ferry terminal that has some shop lots and restaurants, but you can cycle here also ! There are many O-bike bicycles there and you can download O-bike apps to access the code. After that, you can start cycling around here for 1 hour free ! The compound here is quite big and if you choose to walk of course it's not a big problem also.

Four of us cycled and found some nice places to take photos ! This is only one of the attractions. I recommend you to explore and discover by urself ! It's just like a park instead, you can really enjoy the nice views while cycling or walking. I guess the sunset here will be very nice also since there is a sea.

Puteri Harbour International Ferry Terminal:
Opening hours: PUBLIC AREA
Address: Lebuh Bahtera, Kota Iskandar, 79100 Nusajaya, Johor.
Contact No: 07-560 0538

For overall of road trip, it was actually a budget trip. Since we stayed in fren's house, so our accommodation could be saved alot and each of us was also responsible for the transport for our own states, I spent total about RM500-600, it was still worth although we were rushing sometimes. Thanks for all warm treats and hospitality during this road trip !

Finally my road trip posts has finally came to end. Next post I'll share about my degree convocation. STAY-TUNED ! 💚
